La risposta all’inevitabile domanda: “A chi rivolgermi”? THE ITALY-AMERICA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF MIAMI AND THE PROMOTION OF THE MADE IN ITALY IN THE SOUTHEAST OF THE U.S.  When moving to a new country, we instinctively rely on both friends and those institutions and organizations that can make us feel closer to home, that world that we are moving from either for necessity or in search of a different experience. The answer to the inevitable question “Whom should I ask?” once having landed in America it always remains the same: the Consulate General or the Embassy. However, if we wanted advice, a consultation or even support not only from a personal aspect, but also professionally, another valid option would be the local Italian Chamber of Commerce. In Miami, the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Southeast (IACCSE or IACC of Miami) was founded in 1991 and it represents one of the 70 Chambers officially recognized abroad by the Italian Government. This non-profit organization is devoted to promote the Made in Italy brand in the Southeast areas of the U.S. as well as to foster trade between our country and the “stars-and-stripes giant”. During recent years, the IACC has focused on and specialized in becoming both an organizer of events and trade missions in the U.S. and a supporter of delegations of American “buyers” in Italy. The long-standing collaborations with entities such as Fiera Milano, Fiere di Parma, Consorzio Roma Ricerche, Beacon Council, the numerous American (and non-American) institutions as well as the various Chambers of Commerce both Italian and foreign have allowed the continuation of yearly initiatives and the implementation of new projects. These include: from the wine & food and catering service sector to the design one; from new technologies and innovations to the nautical sector; from tourism to consultations; from fashion to home-furnishing and the art sector. Among the several events and initiatives in which the IACC played and continues to play a crucial role in enhancing the relationships between Italy and the U.S., it is important to mention: the 2015 EXPO in Milan (e.g. HOST, TUTTOFOOD, HOMI); MERCANTEINFIERA in Parma; The Extraordinary Italian Taste; Marchio Ospitalità Italiana; Seatrade Cruise Global; the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show; the Real Estate Week – Miami; Art Basel; the opening of the “Chapter” in Puerto Rico; the South Beach Wine & Food Festival; the partnerships and meetings with public and private universities and institutions in regards to the ICT sector and biotechnologies; the Signa Maris project; and the annual publication of the Magazine “.IT”. With more than 200 members, the IACC of Miami has the great advantage of being located in the heart of the real “economic and trade hub of the Americas”: a metropolis able to attract a multitude of Italian investors interested in expanding business both in North America and the Caribbean and Central-South American areas. Nevio Boccanera, Executive Director of the Chamber, states: “The development of Miami under economic and cultural viewpoints has been stunning throughout recent past years. There are many Italian companies and brands that aim at entering this vibrant scenario. Hence, the IACC has decided to re-invent itself in order to both support the small and medium-sized enterprises that look for importers-distributors and to help all of those companies in need of specific initiatives to promote themselves. An example of this new IACC’s facet is represented by the event we are organizing next October, the 22nd, in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Chamber’s foundation. Indeed, the so-called “Best of Italy Gala Night” aims at involving the whole city of Miami in celebrating the Italian excellences that made our country famous worldwide. The purpose is to give an opportunity to those companies that want to either introduce themselves or to consolidate their presence in the American market by using the event as a prestigious means for their own products”. Since this initiative will take place during the Italian and Italian-American heritage month in the U.S., the “Best of Italy Gala Night” is going to enrich that period of the year dedicated to all of the Bel Paese enthusiasts. It should not be missed. Francesco Famà (corrispondente da Miami)
