Giunto al suo nono compleanno, il Festival Internazionale del Giornalismo è ormai una realtà consolidata, entrata di diritto a far parte delle kermesse nazionali e internazionali più in voga e più seguite dal grande pubblico. Il ricordo dell’anno scorso, quando era stata messa in dubbio la sopravvivenza dell’evento per mancanza di fondi, sembra appartenere a un’altra epoca. Con un’appassionante operazione di fund raising si riuscì a raccogliere 115 mila euro a mantenere in vita la manifestazione. E da quest’anno sono tornate in pista anche la Regione e il Comune, sebbene il budget complessivo della manifestazione sia coperto per il 75 per cento da sponsor privati. Del resto, se si analizzano dati e numeri dell’anno passato, come si potrebbe non capire il peso che questa realtà produce anche per il tessuto economico e sociale della città? Con oltre 400 relatori, 50 mila partecipanti, 250 volontari provenienti da 23 differenti paesi, non si può non riconoscere la grandezza e l’internazionalità dell’evento. Divenuto ormai un patrimonio culturale dell’Umbria, un caposaldo tra gli eventi regionali che contribuisce a rendere il Cuore Verde d’Italia noto in tutto il mondo. Indubbiamente i contenuti delle iniziative sono piuttosto attraenti, i relatori di elevata fama e l’organizzazione è impeccabile. Ma con ogni  probabilità ciò che rende il Festival ancora più accattivante è la sua venatura “democratica” rappresentata dall’opportunità che si dà a tutti di partecipare gratuitamente ai numerosi panel, dibattiti e spettacoli che si avvicendano in modo quasi frenetico giorno dopo giorno. In una sorta di modalità: “chi prima arriva, meglio alloggia”, flussi di persone si trascinano da una parte all’altra del centro di Perugia per mettersi pazientemente in fila in attesa dell’apertura dei “cancelli” ed accedere quindi ai primi posti nel luogo dove si tengono tutte le iniziative. La voglia di conoscere, di informarsi, di approfondire gli argomenti più attuali e scottanti del momento, di trovare delle risposte ai propri quesiti e di crearsi una coscienza, spingono folle di partecipanti a vagare in città con il programma del festival in mano alla ricerca del grande personaggio da seguire e da ascoltare. Per apprendere in che direzione si sta spostando la comunicazione, come si sviluppa il giornalismo, il ruolo dei social network, come si elaborano le notizie, e in che modo vengono presentate opinioni e analisi dei fatti. Ma ciò che più di ogni altra cosa identifica il Festival perugino è che per tutta la sua durata scompaiono le barriere e le reverenze verso i grandi nomi del giornalismo, verso gli autori di grande fama, presentatori televisivi e autorevoli penne. In un unico contenitore, tutti sono accomunati da un’unica grande passione, chi ancora per diletto, chi già per professione: l’amore verso il sapere. The memory of last year, when the survival of the event was called into question due to lack of funds, seems to belong to another era. With an exciting fund raising operation, 115 thousand euro was collected to keep alive the event. And from this year also the Region and the City are back on the track, although the overall budget of the event is covered by 75 percent from private sponsors. Moreover, if we analyze the data and numbers of the past year, as you might not understand the consequence that this initiative produces for the economic and social fabric of the city? Undoubtedly the contents of the initiatives are quite attractive, the speakers of high reputation and the organization is flawless. But probably what makes the Festival even more appealing is its vein "democratic" represented by the opportunity that is given to all to participate for free to a number of panels, debates and shows that alternate in an almost frenetic way day by day. In a sort of way “first come, first served”, flows of people are dragged from one side to the other of the center of Perugia to put patiently in line until the opening of the “gates” and thus access to the first places where all the initiatives will be held. The keen to know, to learn, to deepen the current topics and burning issues of the moment, to find answers to questions and to create awareness, pushing crowds of participants to wander into town with the festival program in the hand in search of great character to follow and listen. To find out in which direction the communication is moving, how journalism is developing, the role of social network, the process of the news, and the way opinions and analysis of the facts are presented. But what more than anything else identifies the Festival Perugia is that throughout its time, the barriers and reverence to the great names of journalism, to authors of good reputation, television presenters and authoritative writers disappear. In a unique container, all are united by one great passion, that is still a pleasure for some people, and already a job for others: the love of knowledge. To share unhindered.
